Living in Michigan all of my life has made me come to appreciate the variety and splendor the state has to offer. That same variety and beauty certainly holds true when talk turns to Ann Arbor, Michigan. Speaking from experience, you will not find a more suitable city for great golf courses.
Ann Arbor is home to the Michigan Wolverines, University of Michigan Hospital (considered one of the best hospitals in the world), a thriving city/community, and much more. Some of these attributes set the stage nicely for beautiful and challenging courses .
Even though Michigan has a severely shortened golf season due to the climate, the city and the surrounding areas, is home to some of the best courses you will find in the state of Michigan.
What makes Ann Arbor one of the best cities for golf:
- The rolling terrain
- Avid golfing community.
- High Median Income per household.
- Large number golf courses per square mile.
What I think sets the city apart is the avid golf community. When you have a course owned and operated by one of the largest universities in the country inside the city limits, it brings an awareness to the sport not seen in smaller towns or cities. In addition, you have Miles of Golf, a Top 100 Golf Store in the United States that offers the best practice facilities in the state (summer or winter).
In addition to a great selection of courses, don’t forget the cities nearby. The preservation of nature in the area provides a healthy lifeline to the sport. Surrounding cities including Pinckney, Brighton, and Howell offer an array of golf courses as well. One of the most picturesque golf courses in the state of Michigan is Timber Trace Golf Club, located in Pinckney, Michigan, a short 30 minute drive from Ann Arbor.
If you are planning to take a golf trip to tour the best golf courses Michigan has to offer, put Ann Arbor on your short list.
